This photograph from the Stewart Library Building Collection is of Robert Knowles. He lived from 1817 to 1892. Brian Knowles sent in the following quote from a manuscript written by Samuel Copp Worthen.  Robert was "quite young, [when] he ran away and went to sea. It is said that he could stand on his head at the masthead. Once he was knocked overboard and floated on his back two hours before he was picked up. He helped build the railroad branch through Corinna and became the first station agent there. He had a great reputation as a mathematician and was an efficient schoolteacher. He was the Town Clerk in 1846 and served 12 terms as Selectman of Corinna."
