Lately, in Corinna...

This picture was taken on July 27. It shows the excavation in Area 3, just below the trestle. This was during the first real day of digging. The brown area toward the camera from the backhoe is the river bed and the haul road built beside it. The small pipes on the right remove water that soaks into the hole. That water is pumped up to the treatment facility on the other side of Main Street.

While taking these pictures, and downwind of the dig, I caught just the faint smell the chemical...just like when the mill was using it in the 60's and 70's. Anyone who lived here then would recognize it. Smells can trigger vivid memories. It took me back to those days. They are monitoring the air quality all around the dig. There were a number of the vacuum canisters hanging in the area. I've also seen a worker checking with an air monitoring device.
