They are making a tunnel with box culverts for the river to run in this Winter and next Spring. Those shown in the photo are just behind where the Odd Fellows Hall used to be*. When complete, the other end will be near where the railroad trestle used to be*. With these in place, covered by dirt, construction on the new road can begin while the river runs along the old channel.

Next year, after the river is diverted to the new channel, the box culverts will be filled with concrete.

And here's some good news! With the culvert in place, snowmobiles can cross the river this winter. The recreational trail will be useable again through town.

*Typical Maine Directions- "Take a left just after where John Smith's farm used to be."
