Moving Dirt

July 10, 2000

Before the cleanup is over thousands of cubic yards of contaminated soil will be excavated. The trucks used to carry the soil have a solid dump body so no water can leak out during the trip from the excavation to the soil stockpile area.

Before treatment, the soil will wait in this specially constructed area, located on the slab out back. Any water draining from the soil will be captured by a drainage system. The contamination will be removed before the water is released back into the river.

Later the soil will be treated using hot air to remove the contamination. After treatment, the clean soil will become fill for restoring the excavated areas.

After each load is dumped, the trucks are thoroughly cleaned at the decontamination pad before going out for the next trip.
