PUBLIC WEEKLY UPDATE

NON-TIME CRITICAL REMOVAL ACTION

EASTLAND WOOLEN MILL SUPERFUND SITE

CORINNA, MAINE

 

The following summarizes WESTON’s work completed at the Eastland Woolen Mill Site for week ending Saturday November 17, 2001:

Safety Update:

  • Daily safety meeting conducted.
  • Daily equipment inspections.
  • All work was completed in level D or modified level D PPE.
  • Performed daily air monitoring of the area surrounding the entire site including the new-screened soil stockpile, the contaminated soil stockpile, and Area 1 excavation.

WESTON:

  • Completed backfill operations for the year in Area 1.
  • Continued washing oversized rock.
  • Continued crushing and washing contaminated oversized rock.
  • Removed Aquaqbarriers from riverbed.
  • Performed water quality (temperature, dissolved oxygen, and turbidity) readings south of Corundel Dam and south of the new bridge.
  • Began constructing temporary water treatment plant building.
  • Water treatment plant treated a total of 37,767 gallons.
  • Continued site dust control.

SUBCONTRACTORS:

  • Continued contaminated soil screening operation.
  • Transported screened material to new screened contaminated soil stockpile.
  • Continued washing crushed rock.
