PUBLIC WEEKLY UPDATE

NON-TIME CRITICAL REMOVAL ACTION

EASTLAND WOOLEN MILL SUPERFUND SITE

CORINNA, MAINE

The following summarizes WESTON’s work completed at the Eastland Woolen Mill Site for week ending Friday November 30, 2001:

Safety Update:

  • Conducted daily safety inspections on all heavy equipment used on site.
  • All work was completed in level D or modified level D personal protective equipment.
  • Performed daily dust monitoring of the area surrounding the entire site including the new-screened soil stockpile, the contaminated soil stockpile, and Area 1 excavation.

Work Accomplished by WESTON and Subcontractors:

  • Completed rock washing.
  • Completed washing oversized rock.
  • Continued construction of the temporary water treatment plant building.
  • Performed water quality (temperature, dissolved oxygen, and turbidity) readings south of Corundel Dam and south of the new bridge.
  • Water treatment plant did not treat water this week.
  • Completed contaminated soil screening operation.
  • Continued site dust control.
  • Continued housekeeping and organization in preparation for winter.

Two-week Projection:

The following summarizes the anticipated work to be completed for the next two week time period (November 30 through December 14).

  • Continue housekeeping and organization.
  • Crush clean oversized rock.
  • Install piping from wells in Area 1 to the water treatment plant.
  • Complete the construction of the temporary water treatment plant building.
  • Cover new screened contaminated soil stockpile for the winter.
  • Install erosion control to all disturbed areas on site.
