Weekly Update and Two-week Projection of Work from Roy F. Weston, Inc.

PUBLIC WEEKLY UPDATE

NON-TIME CRITICAL REMOVAL ACTION

EASTLAND WOOLEN MILL SITE

CORINNA, ME

 

The following summarizes WESTON's work completed on the Eastland Woolen Mill Site for week ending Friday October 27, 2000:

 

Safety Update:

  • Conducted daily safety inspections on the heavy equipment used on site.
  • Conducted daily air monitoring along the perimeter of Area 4. Preliminary analytical results for samples were below detection limits.
  • Conducted daily real-time air monitoring for the perimeter of the former mill property and the exclusion zone. Results were below the action levels.
  • Workers in excavation areas continued to wear modified level D personal protective equipment.

 

Work Accomplished by WESTON:

  • Backfilled approximately 945yd3 of gravel material in Areas 2, 2.5, and 3 south.
  • Installed approximately 182 yd3 of rocks/stones in Area 3 south.
  • Transported 588yd3 of contaminated material from Area 4 stockpile to main contaminated soil stockpile
  • Performed water quality readings (temperature, DO, turbidity) above Corundel dam and downstream of Area 3 excavation.
  • Collected a total of 62 soil samples from Building 9 area.
  • Surveyed all soil sample collection location, and continued surveying riverbed location.
  • Completed installation of box culverts.
  • Installed dry hydrant on Adler Stream off Rt. 222.
  • Continued contaminated soil stockpile maintenance.
  • Moved Odd Fellows Building onto new foundation on Rt. 222.
  • Continued work on new Odd Fellows Building foundation.
  • Continued dust control around the work site.
  • Continued night shift monitoring of pumps.

 

Two-week Projection:

The following summarizes the anticipated work to be completed for the next two week time period (November 6 through November 20):

  • Continue ongoing maintenance of erosion controls, construction fencing, and security fence around the work site.
  • Continue maintenance of dewatering pumps, river bypass pumps, and all associated piping.
  • Continue backfilling of box culverts.
  • Continue lining sides of riverbed with stones/rocks.
  • Continue Building 14 excavation.
  • Continue bridge and road work.
  • Place winter cover on contaminated soil stockpile.
  • Pour Odd Fellows Building foundation walls.
  • Continue dust control and air monitoring.
