Weekly Update and Two-week Projection of Work from Roy F. Weston, Inc.

WEEKLY PUBLIC UPDATE

NON-TIME CRITICAL REMOVAL ACTION

EASTLAND WOOLEN MILL SITE

CORINNA, ME

 

The following summarizes WESTON's work completed on the Eastland Woolen Mill Site for week ending Friday November 3, 2000:

 

Safety Update:

  • Conducted daily safety inspections on the heavy equipment used on site.
  • Conducted daily air monitoring along the work areas (Area 4 and bridge excavation area). Preliminary analytical results for samples were below detection limits.
  • Workers in around the work areas continued to wear level D personal protective equipment.

 

Work Accomplished by WESTON:

  • Backfilled an additional 3033yd3 of material in Areas 2 and 2.5 around box culverts.
  • Continued the riverbed restoration by placing approximately 422yd3 of rocks and boulders in Areas 2.5 and 3 south.
  • Began preparation for Building 14 work.
  • Continued surveying location of new riverbed.
  • Began disassembling 12", 8" and 4" pipe from within the former Odd Fellows Building foundation.
  • Continued work on the new Odd Fellows Building foundation.
  • Began sheet piling installation at the Main Street bridge excavation.
  • Continued contaminated soil stockpile maintenance.
  • Continued dust control around the work site.
  • Continued night shift monitoring of pumps.

 

Two-week Projection:

The following summarizes the anticipated work to be completed for the next two week time period (November 13 through November 27):

  • Continue ongoing maintenance of erosion controls, construction fencing, and security fence around the work site.
  • Continue maintenance of dewatering pumps, river bypass pumps, and all associated piping.
  • Continue backfilling of box culverts.
  • Continue lining sides of riverbed with stones/rocks.
  • Complete Building 14 work.
  • Continue bridge and road work.
  • Place winter cover on contaminated soil stockpile.
  • Complete Odd Fellows Building foundation work.
  • Continue dust control and air monitoring
