Weekly Update and Two-week Projection of Work from Roy F. Weston, Inc.

PUBLIC WEEKLY UPDATE

NON-TIME CRITICAL REMOVAL ACTION

EASTLAND WOOLEN MILL SITE

CORINNA, ME

 

The following summarizes WESTON's work completed on the Eastland Woolen Mill Site for week ending Friday November 10, 2000:

Safety Update:

  • Conducted daily safety inspections on the heavy equipment used on site.
  • Conducted daily air monitoring along the work areas (Area 4 and bridge excavation area). Preliminary analytical results for samples were below detection limits.
  • Workers in around the work areas continued to wear level D personal protective equipment.

 

Work Accomplished by WESTON:

  • Backfilled 1230 yd3 of native material around box culverts in Areas 2 and 2.5.
  • Installed an additional 105 yd3 of rocks/stones along the new riverbed.
  • Constructed and installed carbon trench south of the former Odd Fellows Building foundation.
  • Excavated and sampled 3 test trenches (4’ wide x 20’ long x 14’ deep) at Building 14.
  • Began 12", 8" and 4" pipe consolidation.
  • Collected 63 soil samples from Building 14 test trenches, 13 soil samples from bridge abutment excavation area, and 24 soil samples from the bridge abutment excavation soil stockpiles.
  • Surveyed soil sample collection locations in Building 14.
  • Began installation of fence along the north side of the detour road.
  • Continued contaminated soil stockpile maintenance.
  • Continued work on Odd Fellows Building new foundation.
  • Completed sheet piling installation at the Main Street bridge excavation.
  • Re-paved section of the Main Street detour road.

 

Two-week Projection:

The following summarizes the anticipated work to be completed for the next two week time period (November 13 through November 27):

  • Divert river through box culverts.
  • Return piping and pumps no longer necessary for river diversion pumping.
  • Continue ongoing maintenance of erosion controls, construction fencing, and security fence around the work site.
  • Complete backfilling of box culverts.
  • Complete riverbed restoration.
  • Continue bridge and road work. Pour footings for bridge abutments.
  • Place winter cover on contaminated soil stockpile.
  • Pour new foundation walls for Odd Fellows Building.
  • Continue dust control and air monitoring of the site.
