Weekly Update and Two-week Projection of Work from Roy F. Weston, Inc.

Simone Shields, project manager at Roy F. Weston, Inc. (www.rfweston.com) sent the following information to The Cattail Press. Weston is the primary contractor working on the Eastland Woolen Mill Site in Corinna.

WEEKLY UPDATE

EASTLAND WOOLEN MILL SITE

CORINNA, ME

The following summarizes Weston’s work completed on the Eastland Woolen Mill Site for week ending Friday June 30, 2000:

  • Air monitoring was conducted along the perimeter of the mill complex fencing. Preliminary results for the background samples were below detection limits.
     

  • Completed ramps, electrical work, and water collection system for the decontamination pad.
     

  • A portion of concrete floor of the former mill was broken up and temporarily stockpiled.
     

  • Set-up dewatering pump in former mill complex.
     

  • Gravel (backfill material) trucked onsite and stockpiled.
     

  • Stockpile area construction continued - including seaming liner and laying out collection piping.
     

  • Established horizontal and vertical control for future sampling locations.
     

Two-week Projection:

The following summarizes the anticipated work to be completed for the next two week time period (July 5 thru July 14):

  • Site preparation for areas south of Main Street including erosion controls, construction fencing, security fence and tree removal. Some increased truck traffic may be experienced.
     

  • Set-up of dewatering and river bypass pumps and hoses.
     

  • Excavation and soil sampling of within the former mill building. Backfill of excavation after confirmation sampling is completed.
     

  • Finish construction of the soil stockpile area.
     

  • Removal of asbestos containing materials from the buildings to be demolished along Main Street. Air monitoring for will be conducted during the removal.
     

  • Installation of traffic control signs.
     

  • Construct haul roads through the former building and south of Main Street.
     

  • Central Maine Power will be running a three-phase power line from the substation to Main Street through the mill property to replace the three-phase power line on Main Street.
