Weekly Update and Two-week Projection of Work from Roy F. Weston, Inc.

WEEKLY UPDATE

NON-TIME CRITICAL REMOVAL ACTION

EASTLAND WOOLEN MILL SITE

CORINNA, ME

 

The following summarizes WESTON's work completed on the Eastland Woolen Mill Site for week ending Friday July 28, 2000:

Safety Update:

  • Conducted daily safety inspections on the heavy equipment used on site.
  • Conducted PID/FID air screenings along the soil stockpile area and Area 3.
  • Due to elevated PID readings in the excavation and the surrounding area, all excavation work was performed in Level C PPE.

 

Work Accomplished by WESTON:

  • Placed sandbags in the river on the dam south of the Odd Fellows Building.
  • Began excavation of Area 3.
  • Stockpiled all excavated material at the soil stockpile area.
  • Performed water quality (temperature, DO, turbidity) readings at Corundel Lake dam and below Area 3.
  • Constructed maintenance pad for equipment.
  • Collected a total of 23 soil samples from excavation area.
  • Set up an additional 6" dewatering pump before railroad bridge.
  • Relocated 12" piping which was suspended under railroad bridge to top of bridge.
  • Surveyed FID/PID screening and soil sample locations.

 

Work accomplished by Subcontractors:

  • NES conducted asbestos containing material (ACM) removal from Main Street Buildings (Gould’s House, Hoyt’s Store, W. Ripley’s and Henderson Store).
  • Environmental Safety Professional (ESP) conducted air monitoring
  • Maine Central Fence continued installation of fencing around perimeter of work area across the street from the former mill.

 

Two-week Projection:

The following summarizes the anticipated work to be completed for the next two week time period (July 31 through August 14):

  • Continue ongoing maintenance of erosion controls, construction fencing, and security fence in Areas 2 and 3.
  • Continue maintenance of dewatering and river bypass pumps and piping.
  • Continue excavation and confirmation sampling in Area 3, south of Main Street.
  • Begin backfilling of excavated area.
  • Demolition of buildings on Main Street after asbestos abatement.
  • Preparatory work for moving Odd Fellows building.
  • Continue dust control and air monitoring.
