Weekly Update and Two-week Projection of Work from Roy F. Weston, Inc.

PUBLIC WEEKLY UPDATE #6

EASTLAND WOOLEN MILL SITE

CORINNA, ME

 

The following summarizes WESTON's work completed on the Eastland Woolen Mill Site for week ending Friday August 4, 2000:

 

Safety Update:

  • Conducted daily safety inspections on the heavy equipment used on site.
  • Performed real-time air monitoring of the site perimeter.
  • Based on latest personal air monitoring sampling results the level of personal protective equipment for workers in the excavation area was downgraded from Level C to modified Level D - which eliminated the need for full face respirators, but included tyvek suits, gloves, and booties.

Work Accomplished:

  • Continued excavation of Area 3 in a southerly direction (south of old railroad trestle).
  • Stockpiled all excavated soil at the designated soil stockpile area on-site.
  • Began backfilling of Area 3 near railroad trestle.
  • Collected daily soil samples from the excavation area and sent to the on-site laboratory for analysis.
  • Continued work on improving the layout of the water treatment system.
  • Performed daily water quality readings for turbidity, temperature and dissolved oxygen at locations near Corundel Lake dam and downstream of the Area 3 excavation.
  • Surveyed soil screening and soil sample locations.
  • Continued dust control around the work site.
  • Continued night shift monitoring of pumps.
  • Continued the installation of chain link fence around the work area on the south side of Main Street.

Two-week Projection:

The following summarizes the anticipated work to be completed for the next two week time period (August 7 through August 21):

  • Continue ongoing maintenance of erosion controls, construction fencing, and security fence around the work site.
  • Continue maintenance of dewatering pumps, river bypass pumps, and all associated piping.
  • Continue excavation and confirmation sampling in Area 3, south of Main Street.
  • Continue backfilling of excavated areas.
  • Prepare for demolition of buildings on Main Street.
  • Preparatory work for moving Odd Fellows building.
  • Continue dust control and air monitoring.
  • Begin Utility Relocation along Stetson and Newport Roads.
