15. ACKNOWLEDGMENTS

A project like this can rarely be done alone. I wish to express my thanks to the following:

To James Louder for inspiring my interest in Gilbert Patten and for guidance in finding resources.

To Jacqueline Emerson and the Corinna Historical Society for access to their Patten collection of paperbacks, novels, and magazine articles.

To Donna Lambert, librarian, Pittsfield Public Library for help in research and accessing references.

To Jamie Irving, librarian, Stewart Free Library, Corinna for access to the Corinna Owl and other related materials.

To the Stewart Library Building Preservation Group and the Stewart Private Library Museum Advisory Board for preserving and cultivating interest in the history of the town and people of Corinna.

  1. Fantastic research! Thanks for the documentation. I believe he lived in what recently was the Cook home, now owned by the Condons. His shop I believe was on Pleasant Street, SE of the blacksmith shop and W of Gardner’s (his FIL) store.

    1. Thank you, Carl. That is true. It was the Cook home. I enjoyed doing this. His story is fascinating, especially the descriptions in his autobiography of growing up in Corinna. It is remarkable that someone so well known then across the country is little remembered today.
