Lately, in Corinna...

Fire at the Corinna Union Academy Museum

Some sad news from Corinna this afternoon. Just before 3:00 PM smoke was seen coming from the Corinna Union Academy Museum. The smoke came from a fire which seemed to be concentrated in the attic and roof.  Fire departments from Corinna, Newport, Saint Albans, Dexter, Hartland, Garland and Pittsfield responded. Fire fighters from these towns did an incredible job stopping the blaze. They were able to confine the fire to the west end of the building. The photo to the right shows flame leaping from the roof on the back side. There must be extensive damage to the roof and the upstairs room but, two hours later, they had saved it. No word yet on the cause.

I can't say enough about the dedication and skills of our local firefighters. I watched with great respect and pride as they worked in the hot weather, risking their lives to save the building. If you are a member of these fire departments, Thank you. If you know anyone on the fire departments of these towns, please tell them I said, "Thank you."
