The Maine Department of Transportation has announced that the intersection of Routes 222, 43, 7 and 11 in Corinna will stay as it is. It is ironic that the MDOT came to town a year ago with 4 proposals for reconfiguring this intersection. At the time it seemed that they favored the roundabout as the best. The local people were very skeptical. However, as locals investigated for themselves some (not all) came to believe that the roundabout was indeed the best approach. Now the MDOT has decided that the best thing to do is "nothing". I understand that there is significant gasoline contamination under the west side of the Dexter Road portion of the intersection. Rebuilding the intersection would force the cleanup of that contamination. It would be very expensive. The Bangor Daily News article linked below reports on the MDOT presentation in a meeting in Corinna. |
