Again Stan provides us with a picture of the Corinna village, this time the area south of Route 7. The bridge and the recreational trail bridge show clearly here. The river meanders through the area that used to be the lower mill pond. Notice the gravel roadway (at the bottom of the photo) built out into the former pond. The EPA constructed it to facilitate drilling monitoring wells and the sampling of river sediments. There is significant contamination in spots along the river for a mile or more. The EPA will hold a public meeting in Corinna on June 5 to tell us more. |
