This picture was taken in June of 2000. It shows the East Branch of the Sebasticook River from Corinna to the County Road bridge just upstream from Sebasticook Lake in Newport. The body of water at the top of the photo is Corundel Lake above the Upper dam in Corinna. As described in the Bangor Daily News article linked below, significant contamination has been found in the sediments some distance downstream from the woolen mill site. The EPA says human contact with the water and sediments should not present a health problem. However, certain contaminants, including the pesticide dieldrin, have been detected in fish captured in the area. |
