Yesterday, Rick Leighton of the EPA lead members of the SCCE and others on a walking tour of the Eastland Woolen Mill cleanup site in Corinna. The object in the background is a cooling tower used to cool the heated air removed from the soil decontamination beds. The soil is cleaned in batches of about 400 tons each. The latest batches have been successfully cleaned to the meet the EPA standards. The cleaned soil can be safely reused. The decontamination process will continue for sometime before a winter shut-down. It will resume again in the early spring. |
