As the hole in Area 2 gets wider and deeper, the pile of contaminated soil in the stock pile area grows taller. It's huge. I would guess they must be up to 10,000 cubic yards of soil excavated by now. This picture was taken from the electrical substation near the Upper Dam.

I must say, the workers and officials at the site have been very friendly and tolerant of me peering through the fences with my camera. I suspect they think I'm somewhat obsessed but many of them recognize me now and wave.
