Recently we found this
picture among slides taken by my grandmother, Carmen Dow. I recognize
some of these ladies, in particular the youngster, my Aunt Nola Sawtelle,
on the right. Who knows the rest? Who is the lucky gentleman? There is
no date on the slide. Can anyone guess the year, location and what
occasion this might have been?
There were a number
of entries to the Guest Book about the picture above. I have
reproduced them here so it will be easier to identify
individuals in the photo.

Hi Ken -Just saw the photo on 9-16-02 of ladies & one gent - Front row

Nola Sprague Sawtelle, 2nd row: Glaydes Wentworth, Grace
Philbrick, Thelma Brown, Marion Ervin, Opal Weed, Beulah Sprague, Laura Cook, Clair Hutchins, Mina Hobbs. The

Hi Ken,
I think I can identify a few of the people in the picture...starting on the
left side (standing) is Gladys Wentworth and next to her is Joyce Hatch. I'm
not sure of the names of the next two, but still standing and facing front
with the blue dress is Opal Weed. Laura Cook is in the middle between Opal
and Nola. Behind Laura, to the left of the man is Beulah Sprague. Some of
the other faces look familiar, but can't put a name to them. The one sitting
in the chair looks a little like my grandmother Bird, but don't think it is
her. I'm not positive about any of these names, but think they are correct.
Thanks again for keeping this website going. It brings an incredible amount
of pleasure and fond memories to all of us.

Hi Ken...The picture you put on for Sept 16th was taken in the front room of Opal and Herb Weed's home only the negative is
reversed. (It confused us for a moment!). Some of the people are Claire and Lou Hutchins, Opal Weed, Ethel (?) Brown, Erma Maxim, Gladys
Wentworth.

i can identify the lady in center as opal weed ,one on lower left
possibly helene hagar. this mystery should get more guest book sign -ins. it has been kind of slow over the vacation season.
enjoy this site very much, your pictures are really great. nice to
see re-constuction after so much destruction. the proposed new housing
should fill a much needed void. can hardly wait to see new
businesses , (main street) , a nice water-way -nature-walk would be
nice.

Ken, I believe the photo in today's cattailpress probably is a group of ladies that belonged to the Rebekah
Lodge. Several, if not most, of them look familiar to me - but - it was alng time ago and I do not really
recognize many. The lady in blue, third from the left, standing, is my mother, Thelma Brown. The lady in
front of her, seated, in dark blue, looks like Dot King (ask Kenneth). I think this may have been taken as
long ago as the 1940s perhaps 50s. I cannot recognize the gentleman. Perhaps this was the birthday of
the lady in the front row with the corsage (she is another that looks familiar but I cannot name.) I will be
interested to learn more about the identities of these persons. There must be a few "old-timers" left in
Corinna who could give some names to them. Try Alice and John Bird; they have been around a long time
and know - have known - most of the townsfolks.
Good luck, Wayne Brown |
