Lately, in
Corinna... Odd Fellows Hall to be moved again The three-story Odd Fellows Hall that sits over the river on the south side of Main Street was moved into its present position 50 years ago to make room for an expansion of the mill. It used to be on the other side of the street. Now the riverbed and soil under the building is severely contaminated with the benzene compounds used by the woolen mill to dye cloth. The building will be moved so the EPA can excavate the soil and remove the contamination. While the plans are not finalized, according to an article in Saturday's Bangor Daily News, it seems likely that its new location will be the vacant lot just around the corner on Spring Street, the Stetson Road. I wonder how well the building will survive another move. The process will certainly offer some great opportunities for interesting pictures. My father has some photos he took of the building being moved the first time. I'll use them in an article when it is moved again. |
