Main Street, 1972 and 1999

December 14, 1999

This is the first in a series of four pages showing current pictures of the Main Street area compared to similar photographs taken in the past. Here you see a photo from 1972. The next three pages contain shots taken in 1919, 1906 and 1898.

Main Street 1972 By Clyde SmithClyde Smith, who now lives in California, sent me this picture. Clyde lived in Corinna from 1941 to about 1953. He took this picture of Main Street on Jan 1, 1972. It shows downtown before the Turner Block burned in 1975. It's a bustling little commercial center. You can see the parking meters that used to line the street and steam from the mill stacks. Main Street 1999This picture of Main Street, taken in November 1999, shows how much things have changed in 27 years. Click on the picture for a larger view.

Thanks to Clyde Smith for the 1972 photo of Main Street
