A few days ago my father found this moth in our driveway. In this picture he is holding it in his hand. We could not identify it using the National Audubon Society Field Guide to New England. Checking the online field guide at eNature.com lead us to identify it as a Ceanothus Silk Moth. But, according to the site, the moth has a range from British Columbia south to Baja California, Mexico; from the west coast to Sierra Nevada. How did what seems to be a west coast moth species show up in my driveway in Corinna, Maine? Sarah Winter Derevjanik sent in this solution to the moth question. |
