Comment: Dear Ken,
A very Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family.
While I am sad that there will not be a daily "update" on Corinna, I am so glad that you will continue the newsletter on a weekly basis. Thank you for all of your time in all that you have done. You are to be commended. The project of renewing Corinna has had a beautiful outcome. I wish Aunt Myra and Uncle Walt (Kerr) could have seen the finish of the project, I'm sure they would be very pleased. And I KNOW they would be very proud of you.
I was amazed at the photo of the Albino moose. What a startling discovery! I, like you, don't think I have ever seen a white moose. I've seen white deer and the sacred white buffalo born not too long ago, but nothing quite as startling as the moose. I wonder what the mother thought of it!
You are an amazing person. I am very proud that you are family! Thank you, once again, for all of your hard work and deep caring for such a wonderful town.
Sandy McIntire (justplainsassyhotmail.com)

Sandy- Thank you. Aunt Myra and Uncle Walter would be shocked to see Corinna as it is today, looking better all the time but still so different from what it was. I am pleased that you have enjoyed the we site. Take care. -Ken

Comment: Ken, That albino moose is quite a sight. I've seen the picture many times and I went to goggle.com and looked up albino moose a week ago and the same picture was there and it said it was taken in Alaska. Still it was quite a sight.

Judi- That goes to show the power and "danger" of the Internet. Harder to tell fact from fiction these days. -Ken

Comment: Re Darrell Hiliker's guestbook letter today I was interested in the "4 and 8 Nurses Scholarship Fund at the American Legion Post 129" part of it. In Europe during World War II my infantry outfit was transported to the front lines in what were referred to as 40 and 8 railroad box cars. (They were big enough to carry 40 men or 8 horses. Not very fancy transportation!). So I was wondering if the "4 and 8" should be 40 and 8? My wife and I will look forward to your forthcoming new weekly publication for the Cattail Press. We've enjoyed the Cattail Press for so long. Best regards for a happy Thanksgiving from Bing and Geri Grindle in Roanoke, Virginia

Bing and Geri- That is interesting, about the boxcars. I've not heard of that before. I double checked the email, "4 and 8" is how it came in. Maybe Darrell will see your message and explain the name. Thanks for your comments. I am pleased that you have enjoyed the web site. Holiday Greetings to all. -Ken

don't cut the scene) will be seen tooting down the street in his 1956 Green Chrysler. We knew him when....

Comment: Dear Ken, and Julie, too! Never thought the computer would make me homesick, but we do miss you all and I visit Cattail Press at least twice a week. So nice to see the pictures of the play and cast and read others' comments. Weather in Orlando East has been unseasonable hot since we arrived (Oct. 17th) but everyone's reaction from up North has been that we shouldn't complain. A trip to Dallas on Thanksgiving will give us a new adventure - staying on a ranch, complete with longhorns and growing Christmas trees. Of course, this Nana will be glad to play with her California granddaughter most of all! Best wishes to all.

Comment: Magnificent! Hilarious! My husband and I enjoyed last night's play as much as productions we have seen at Monmouth and Ogunquit. Each performer brought the zany and lovable characters to life with humor and perfect timing. We cannot say enough about the talent of each cast member but Ida played by Jantha Gray was an extraordinary talent throughout the entire play. We laughed constantly, hysterically at times, throughout the entire second act. Thank you all for a most enjoyable evening. And it was a double treat for us to see the inside of the Stewart Library Building again. It has been many years and it is truly beautiful.

Ed and Shirley- Thank you so much for your comments. The cast did an outstanding job. We are pleased that you enjoyed the show. -Ken

Comment: Ken, We too enjoyed the play. We also just attended the MCI Dram Club's presentation of "Honk". This too was great. There indeed is lots of local talent.
Although brother Bruce is a thespian, we still love him and now know that he can act out on a stage too.
The role was a bit of a stretch for him though. We will look forward to the next production.

Norm- Thanks to you and your daughter for all the help with the set. Glad you enjoyed the show. -Ken

I have not seen anything better at Lakewood all summer!!! and the price is a lot less!! We have very talented actors and actresses right here in our little town and I pray they will do another play this winter as I will make sure I "find time" to go see it!!!

Kay- Thank you for sending in your comments. I am pleased that you enjoyed the play. You are right. They do a great job. This is our last performance for this year. However, we are already planning for next summer. -Ken

Comment: KEN I HAVE BEEN REMISS FOR QUITE SOME TIME IN NOT THANKING YOU FOR THIS SITE. I CHECK IN DAILY .IT HAS BEEN A BLESSING IN ALLOWING ME FROM THIS LONG DISTANCE TO VIEW THE CHANGES IN CORINNA THROUGH YOUR CAMERA AND YOUR AND YOUR CONTRIBUTORS WORDS. CORINNA IS CERTAINLY LOOKING NICE AND FRESH AND WELL ON THE ROAD TO RECOVERY. IT SHOULD NOT BE LONG BEFORE SMALL SHOPS OPEN AND TOURISTS ADD TO THE WEALTH OF THE AREA. CORINNA HAS ALWAYS BEEN A NICE LITTLE TOWN WITH FRIENDLY PEOPLE AND HELPING HANDS. I AM SURE IT WILL ONLY GET BETTER. IT IS SO NICE THAT THE LIBRARY BUILDING IS PUTTING ON PLAYS .THERE SEEMS TO BE AN AMPLE SUPPLY OF TALENTED PEOPLE TO ACCOMPLISH THIS ACTIVITY. THE LIBRARY SEEMS TO HAVE ACTIVITIES FOR THE CHILDREN AND TOWN FOLKS. A NICE BUSY PLACE. THANK YOU FOR GIVING ME THE OPPORTUNITY TO SIT WAY DOWN HERE IN VA. IN MY HOME AND WATCH CORINNA CHANGE FOR THE BETTER. WILL BE LOOKING FORWARD TO MORE CHANGES.

After having spent a few days lately in the town hall, I was wondering if there were any older photos of it, upstairs and down, that you could share on the Cattail? Maybe 30 or 40 years or so ago?
It still looks and smells the same as it did when I attended CUA. The outside and inside improvements look nice.

Norm- Thanks for all your help on the set of the latest LSCT production. I don't have any pictures of inside the town hall from that time. Does anyone out there have some? -Ken

outstanding man as a student at CUA. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family. Perry, you sure did a

Comment: Ken,
We just spent a few days in Kennebunkport with Aunt Mim and Uncle Ken King. It was Gene and Ida Hillikers 50th wedding anniversary. Included all four siblings, Tom, Barbara, Kim and Suzanne with spouses and children. We had a great time talking about old times in Corinna. Aunt Mim emailed me with about the Cattailpress. What a great web site. Its been a while since I have been back up to Corinna. I can't believe the wool mill has been torn down. Lots of memories for me back there. Your site brings a lot of those back, swim front, walking under the stores on the river, etc. I also set a lot of names that I haven't heard in a while. great site, i will check frequently.

Comment: Norman Clarke asked the location of new housing and park. The Commons will be on the north side of old mill site. If you enter Hill St. by the EPA office it will be on your left. The Park area is not definite at this time. We had planned to have it adjacent to Winchester Park however the access road, elevations, ledge and the need to get utilities to new housing may change that. A subdivision plan will be worked on this winter and that will give us the location. It may be closer to the river but will be next to Rt. 7 and the newly filled area that Ken showed in his photos of Sept. 3 and 4 may be a part of park. We plan the walking trail to connect to the park. We have talked about location of the bricks. Had originally planned to put in the walk ways of park but a suggestion to put around a proposed bandstand is a consideration. The park committee would like to thank everyone that submitted ideas for the park name. Corinna Village Park was the majority choice. We will pass that name on to the selectmen.

Comment: Ken, my sincere compliments on a very authentic, well thought out, and fascinating web page. I believe it does more for Corinna’s development future than a New York City marketing firm could ever do. My hat goes off to you!
I thought it be important that I scribe a few words of my interest in the Town of Corinna. As you probably know, Penquis CAP is developing a 20 unit senior housing project, Corundel Commons. We are very excited about this development. I, personally, cannot wait for Spring of 2004 when construction will begin. This project will be brought to reality with the partnership efforts of The Maine State Housing Authority, Merrill Bank, and The Northern New England Housing Investment Fund. But, the real partner in this worthy development is the Community of Corinna. The Town should be proud of the individuals on their Development Committees and their Town officials. Our relationship with these folks, as well as the EPA officials, has been nothing short of superlative cooperation and genuine interest in Corinna’s future. It has been a joy working with them. I would like to offer my email address to anyone reading your web page who might have questions concerning Corundel Commons. (SMooerspenquiscap.org) Please feel free to contact me. I will do my best with appropriate responses.
In closing I, like many others, for years only knew Corinna as the town between Newport and Dexter. We all have driven by the old mill and pretty much imprinted that image of Corinna. My predevelopment activities have taken me off of Route 7 up into Corinna. There I have found the best kept secret in Maine. There is no better little town anywhere. A great place to call home. Again, my compliments on your Cattail Press web page.

Steven- Thank you for your comments on the web site. It has been a great experience over the past 4 years, a privilege to make connections with so many people who care about each other and the town of Corinna. It is exciting to see  redevelopment starting in the area. It looks like there are many good things to come. We certainly appreciate your efforts and those of the people with whom you work. -Ken

Also, where the "bricks" will eventually end up.
Sounds like the "New" Corinna is beginning to take shape.

Norm- Great question. I am not sure. Plot maps are being drawn
but I don't have them. Maybe someone "out there" can tell us. -Ken
