Date: March 29, 2001 Name: Marilyn Conway Location: Prague, OK Email: bmconway@brightok.net Comment: Ken, You are becoming the National Geographic of Corinna, Maine. I've heard of those birds, but had never seen one - they must have to walk carefully with that long beak!
Never thought I'd become a birdwatcher of any kind, but they are fun to watch. My biggest discovery in Oklahoma was seeing a Road Runner - you know they really do look like the cartoon character of the same name. Keep trying new things with that camera of yours - you always get positive responses when you do.

Thanks Mr. Dow

I'd rather come to Corinna in person..........seems I'm in "economic exile" from Central Maine, working to support my family in (of all places) North Central Texas.
Joe- Until you can make visit. Keep in touch here. -Ken
Date: March 26, 2001 Name: Elaine Williams Location: Silver Spring, MD Email: ejrandall@home.com Comment: There are many wonderful pictures in Cattail Press but I am awed by the picture on March 21st. What strikes me most is how the sun illuminates the tree – showing its true colors and textures and how it’s brightness and clarity dwarfs every thing around it. Thank you for sharing what you see in both words and pictures.
Thank you, Elaine. It is a striking photograph. I am pleased that you enjoy it. -Ken
Date: March 26, 2001 Name: Claudia Breslin Location: Wickford, RI Email: CCbreeze7@aol.com Comment: Hello Ken from one of the flatlanders,
I LOVE that photo you posted on March 21st, the one YOU liked so much that you posted it twice. You should add that to your wallpaper collection.
I also enjoy that weather chair alot. What a neat item.
Cannot wait to come up to Maine again. I am getting the antique bug. Great stores up these.
Just get rid of the awful snow. YUCK.Claudia- Thank you. We are trying but nature seems to have other ideas this year. The snow should be gone in a couple of weeks. -Ken
Date: March 23, 2001 Name: Peter Michaud Location: Newburgh, Maine Email: peterrmichaud@aol.com Comment: Ken: Mum & Dad tipped me off to your very nice website some time ago but since I only had access to a computer at work, I was not able to check in regularly. Mum is grateful that you put her back in touch with her relative in England - they correspond regularly now. I had to smile when I read about the Odd Fellows hall being saved - I remember those long-ago days when you and I tried smoking some of your grandmother's (Carmen) cigarettes up on the fire escape and we fretted about starting high school in the fall. I hardly ever get out Corinna way anymore and the only other person I see fairly regularly, other than my folks, has been Susan Goetz (nee Burrill). Great work on your website to say nothing about the colossal effort it must take.
PMPeter- I told your mother I wouldn't admit to smoking in those long-ago days. I could tell she knew better. Mothers always find out... -Ken

Marilyn- That's a good name for that picture. -Ken
Date: March 22, 2001 Name: Debi (Dow) Emmons Location: Gray, Maine Email: galadriel_emm@yahoo.com Comment: Gee - and I thought I was the only one in the Dow family who liked to write....(I'm sort of a second cousin to you, as my dad was Robert Dow of Exeter, brother to Herb Dow, Sr of Corinna). Great job!!
Date: March 22, 2001 Name: Norm Clarke Location: Right here Email: npclarke@gwi.net Comment: Ken,
More great photos!
Have you thought about compiling them into a book?
Perhaps you could combine them with "old" photos of Corinna. It would make a nice coffee table book and would be a quick seller, I'm sure.
Congrats on the awards, thanks for this site and for the terrific photos. As our lives get faster and faster, it's great to slow down a little and go back home for a while, even if it's on a small screen in front of us.Norm- I'm not sure what I will do with all the pictures. It's is quite a collection--maybe a book of some sort... -Ken

It's been a strange day! My sister sent me Michael Dow's website, and I sent him an e-mail - and he gave me your website. My dad was Robert Dow, your grandfather's youngest brother - that makes me your dad's first cousin, even if I am only 40-something! We've lost touch with alot of family since Dad's death, and Mom moving to Bangor - it's been nice touching base with a couple of cousins. And, I have your folks e-mail address from a comment earlier, so will send them a note. This is a great site! What a great idea. It seems like a million years since I've been to Corinna - maybe we'll have to make a swing through this summer! Would love to hear from - my best to your family, and keep up the good work!

Date: March 18, 2001 Name: Claudia Breslin Location: Wickford, RI Email: CCbreeze7@aol.com Comment: Hi Ken,
We have spring in RI. I have finally bought my own digital camera. I have enjoyed your photos so much I figured it was about time. I purchased an Olympus D490, it is about the same as the Kodak you are using except it folds up smaller to fit in a pocket. I still have my film cameras though, I will never part with them. Hope to see Corinna soon, as soon as you guys have spring. I really enjoyed the photos of my sister's house at Christmas. Even though I now have a brand new 4-wheel drive vehicle, I remain a flatlander and cannot venture north in the winter...yet.Claudia- Keep checking The Cattail Press. I'll let you know when Spring is here. -Ken
Date: March 17, 2001 Name: Bruce Clarke Location: Corinna Email: blcbjc@kynd.net Comment: Very interesting to note that Corinna enjoyed participation from over 100 concerned citizens at town meeting, DURING A SNOWSTORM! That's small town democracy in action. The fact that the Federal Government is holding our town up as a model of how to get things done properly during a Superfund incident speaks highly of our citizens and officials.
Good to hear from other old classmates, such as Ona Tuttle. Also saw a comment from my ancient brother, Norm. We just call him Patch now. Ask him why. Bruce Clarke
Date: March 17, 2001 Name: Ann Kelley Location: Boothbay Email: Comment: You have a great web site! Maybe you could include a small map of Maine and show where Corinna is (pardon my ignorance of local geography!)
Ann- That's a great idea! I should have thought of it. I have included a small map on the Welcome/Background page. Thanks. -Ken
Date: March 16, 2001 Name: Cherri Deveau Location: East Millinocket Email: bigsher@midmaine.com Comment: Your wonderful town manager, Judy Doore, told me all about your great site! I could hardly wait to view it after speaking to her. Every word she said was true - it is certainly one of the most interesting sites I have visited. The Town of Corinna should be very proud of the site creator and you deserve any recognition that is bestowed upon you. Your daily updates show dedication to your community and all of its citizens; your little town should be proud! Good luck with the completion of your Superfund project.
Cherri Deveau
ps The Town of East Millinocket would love to steal your town manager, you are very lucky to have such a smart, hardworking lady! She was certainly a great asset to our community as well.

I understand (from the Town Meeting yesterday (3/10/01) that a special group from DC few in here recently. The comment from them "We learned more about what was going on in Corinna and the EPA works from The Cattailpress than from their own computers at headquarters in Washington DC.
That is quite a "Compliment" indeed. You have helped Corinna in many ways! THANK YOU!
Date: March 11, 2001 Name: Wayne R. Brown Location: Fort Myers, FL Email: rubway@earthlink.net Comment: Some one was inquiring recently about LeeRoy Levenseller. He made an entry, and his wife, Elaine made one here about a year ago. I checked back and they did not include email address but appear to be located in Milton, FL - near Pensacola. Elaine's sister, Peggy (Mrs. Lee) Kaufman lives in Dexter and Her and Elaine's parents are Walter and Arlene Ireland, living in Corinna. My first wife was Walter's sister. I hope this helps whoever is interested.

Congratulations on another nice award. I've really enjoyed your winter pictures, especially the red barn in the snow, which is my current wallpaper at work. Everybody at work likes my wallpapers from Corinna - they usually say "How do you cope out here, after living in a place like that!"
Also: if Charlie Randall, originally from Palmyra sees this, please write in again with your email address, the "josh" one didn't work.
Date: March 7, 2001 Name: Wes Harris Location: FT Gordon, Georgia Email: mainex3@yahoo.com Comment: Ken, Congratulations on your award. This site is excellent and the award was well deserved. From being so far away, this is one of the best ways to keep track of what's happening in Corinna, and keep in touch with your "roots". I think if you keep getting all these snowstorms, the EPA will never get back to work on the old mill site.
To all those in the cold weather...please stay safe and keep warm....

Date: March 3, 2001 Name: Brian Knowles Location: Rochester NY Email: bpknowles@aol.com Comment: Ken and Herb, Congratulations on another community recognition award. You certainly have created a very interesting and informative site.
I am glad to see the information explaining what the end results of the clean up will be. This should be a great time for Corinna. There is plenty of time and so cash assistance to plan a new Downtown, unlike many of the other times the had to start over. I'm sure in the past money was short and rebuilding immediately was required.
Just following up on a comment made by Ed Brouder about a website classmates.com, there are quite a few CUA Alumni listed. Maybe I missed some earlier mention of this site, but I would encourage readers to go the site and register.
To Dan Parker I believe Leroy L. is still living on northern Florida. I am quite sure the Alumni Association has an address for him, at least they did several years ago. Jane S. may also have an address for him, with my latest move a lot of my stuff is in storage.
Ken keep up the great work and thanks for the site.

Glad to see new stuff. Don't know what we'll do if this site closes. It's been a great way to maintain contact with old friends and acquaintances. Thanks again.
Also, keep publishing letters from my not all that much younger brother Bruce. His doctors have always said that letter writing was good therapy since the basket making didn't work out and his setting fire to the therapists couch got his sessions cut short.Norm- The Cattail Press will continue. Meanwhile, hide the matches! -Ken
