Dear Ken, A friend set up Cattailpress for me. I worked as a 3rd generation employee at (Striars) Eastland Mill, 1963-1977. Corinna will never be the same! Beautiful photography....

I haven't signed in for several months but I check this site almost every day and marvel at your expertise at showing and describing what has been going on there in Corinna.
If I haven't congratulated you on the Governor's Award to you, let me do so now. An outstanding achievement.
I see many familiar names here in the Guestbook but I expect they belong to people who are several generations removed from mine.
Keep up the great work. Regards, Phil

Dear Ken,
In any recent pictures showing the corner lot where your house (and my grandfather Redman's) stood, the lot always appeared too small for that house to have been. Then yesterday I noticed something in those two pictures you showed. In the November 18th photo you can just barely see a curved line on the pavement of the street where a considerable part of the lot was taken when the pavement was widened and rounded at that corner. That greatly reduced the size of that lot where the house was. As you so well know, that was a good size house and with the road the way it used to be there was room for it!

Ken. Danny and I have just recently got onto the internet. What you have done with the cattail press far exceeds anything we have seen anywhere on the net. You should be extremely proud of your fine accomplishment. I haven't taken any pictures of Corinna since the cleanup started. I guess it hurt to much to see the town I grew up in and love totally gone. I'm so glad now I can look at your pictures. A lot has changed here since I was a child, memories I'll never forget. Lets hope the future of Corinna can make pleasant memories for us and the next generation. Keep up the great work!!!

I found this very fascinating especially since I was moved from Maine at a young age. I went in to print out some pictures for my mother Ertelle (Stevens) Ingram. These will mean much more to her I am sure. I only wish she was on-line so she could see your whole web site. Maybe this will inspire her to get on-line. Keep up the good work and thanks to my Aunt, Esther Buck who told her about the site. It is a small world when you can turn on your computer and travel to another state so quickly.

I find it interesting that so many people have found this site and know where Corinna, me. is. We are originally from Dexter, Me. and have a summer home in Ripley, Me. We travel the road through Corinna often and find it interesting to watch the great progress and improvements that are taking place.

Like Alden Schmitz, I enjoyed the placement of the Corinna Pilings (Corinna Henge!) by the artistic machine operator. Another similarity came to mind - how about those Easter Island statues in the South Pacific with the distinctive faces? Possibilities are endless------

Ken, I'm beginning to enjoy the guest book more than any other part of the site. It's amazing to see how many other people keep finding it. For a little town, we seem to have been a part of many lives over the years. If folks keep telling friends about your Cattail Press, soon the whole country will visit. Keep up the good work. Jim

Hi. I am new to your site. I grew up in St. Albans but have been living out of state for many years. I visited Maine about 2 times each year. Was there in August for my Mother's funeral. I was shocked to see the Main street of Corinna. I am glad they are cleaning up the site. I worked in Eastland for several years. You all take care. God bless. Beth

I was deeply saddened to learn of the town's problems with the Mill contamination.
Myra & Walt Kerr were my ties to Corinna. They were my ex-husband's great-aunt and great-uncle. I miss them very much. They were both very special people.
Linda (Mc Intire) & Ron Richards are responsible for giving me your e-mail address so that I could see the progress being made in Corinna.
Thanks for the web site.

We are home for Thanksgiving, first time in 6 years, another opportunity to see everything first hand. You can now plainly see what the end results of the new roads will be. Although there was much controversy about saving or destroying the OFH building I think it is going to prove a good decision. Last night coming into town from Stetson it was nice to see at least one building from Corinna's main street left. It is really too bad that the town did not keep the old railroad station, as it would have been another landmark and could have been made a part of the new downtown.
Thanks for the site.

I want to add my thanks for this wonderful web site. Last summer I drove into Corinna from the Newport Road--what a shock it was to see that the mill and so much else was no longer there. My parents then told me about the Cattail Press, and now I stay well informed.
On this Thanksgiving Day I am reminded what a blessing it is to have grown up in the Newport-Corinna area. Seeing some of the older pictures of Corinna on the web site brings back memories of the wonderful tree lined streets--there was nothing like that cool Maine breeze on a warm day. I have memories of friendly people and fun times. Car keys weren't lost because they were left in the ignition, and we didn't worry about house keys because the doors were always unlocked--it was a place and time when we didn't even know about the dangers that children have to think about every day now.
My blessings are many , and your website has reminded of that. Thank you,
Cheryl Smith Alston

Hi! My name is Jean Hatfield. I was married to Clayton Hatfield of Corinna who passed away in 1980. We had two children, Tammy and Brian.
We all visit Corinna whenever we have a chance. Martha Hatfield is down here with us and when she goes back to Corinna in the summer, we take her back or visit while she is there. However, she didn't make it back this summer because of her health. She enjoys your site so much. It eases her homesickness, while letting her keep up on what is happening. She has heard from a few people since Tammy and Brian signed on. It thrills her every time she gets a note. This is a wonderful site for all connected with Corinna. I left there and moved to Florida in 1981 and keep looking for names I recognize. I spent a very important part of my life there and have fond and lasting memories of that time. I hope you'll keep this site going. It brings much pleasure to a lot of people. Thanks.

Having grown up being friends with the Hartley family, I have spent many days traveling through Corinna. Now that I am grown up (or so I sometimes am told) I don't get to go through town very often. I would like to express my appreciation for all the work you are doing and I check in on a daily basis to keep track. I am truly amazed at what has been done and what is planned.
Thank you for the time you've put in.

First Ken, I want to congratulate you on the Governor's Award. you are providing a great service to the people of Corinna and surrounding towns, and to those of us who live in other parts of the country it is great to have a place where we can keep up with the progress and rebuilding of our town. Now, I have a question, maybe it has all ready been addressed.
What about the old dump site? I am pretty sure that is a contaminated area all so. There used to be trucks from the mill hauling waste, probably chemicals, day and night, there must be contamination in that area and in my opinion should be included in the clean-up. This is the old dump site on the Stetson road . If you have any information, please let me know. thank you and keep up the good work.

Arlene- Oh, yes! You are right. The old dump is presently receiving much attention...drilling, soil samples, the works. Not much information has been released yet but it may be part of the next phase of the cleanup. -Ken

Wow! Ask a question, and you get an answer. Thanks, Ken, for so quickly replying to my guest book entry of November 11 in which I asked about the initial identification of the contamination problem. You did a great job today giving us those three sections that explain in detail the original identification of chlorobenzene and related compounds found in the restaurant well water, etc. My wife, Geri, and I continue to be amazed at your ability to put together all the various types of input and information in the Cattail Press.

Congratulations Ken...on the award and the great service that you are providing for people with interests in the developments in Corinna. I would like to say hello to all my friends back home and let them know what I am doing now. In June 2000, my wife and 2 children moved to Presque Isle as I started a new career at Maine Public Service Company (MPSCo is like a CMP of Northern Maine). I am working as an Electrical Engineering Technician and really enjoy my work. My wife, originally from this area, is enjoying being back home as well as I am enjoying getting reacquainted with my old college friends. Our kids have adjusted fine and are doing very well in school. I hope that some old friends will read this and e-mail us with a short note to let us know what they are up to. Thanks Ken for letting me use this guest book to let friends know what is going on with us. Keep up the good work Ken!
