Lately, in Corinna...

This is the river just below the Route 7 bridge in Corinna. I am very skeptical of the pronouncements from the state government and in the media about a so called "drought" in Maine. I agree we have had low rainfall for some time, more than a year, and that is a concern. But this is not a "drought". Even before the rain of the past 2 days there was water standing in the hole pictured on the web site yesterday. A drought means wide spread crop failure, clouds of billowing dust, fish dieing in the muddy remnants of streams and rivers, rampant forest fires. None of that has happened in Maine. I am not minimizing the problem of low rainfall but we are a long way from a "disaster".

This is good news:

The Maine Science and Technology Foundation is reporting in their weekly email newsletter that Edwards Systems Technology of Pittsfield, a unit of SPX Corp, has bought a Chicago-based company, Dukane Communications Systems, and is moving it and 80 jobs to Newport.
