Summer Solstice

Corinna residents, local officials, and members of the press gathered on the trail bridge yesterday with officials from the Department of Conservation's Maine Forest Service. In a brief press conference, on a beautiful sunny afternoon, Kevin Doran, of  the Maine Forest Service announced that Corinna has been selected as a "model town" for Project Canopy.

The program will provide help with beautification projects, tree assessment, soil analysis and stabilization and will hold tree-planting workshops. These are only a few of the many benefits offered to designated model towns. The project is a cooperative effort of the Maine Forest Service and the Pine Tree State Arboretum. For more information, call the Maine Forest Service at 1-800-367-0223 or visit the project's web site at www.projectcanopy.org.

To celebrate the new partnership, the first of many new tress was planted near the bridge. This is a milestone in the life of Corinna, filled with hope and enthusiasm for the future.
